Tyra Banks, the model, entrepreneur and television personality behind the hit America’s Next Top Model, announced a new initiative yesterday, revealing she was launching a hunt for the next top plus size model.

The contest, based in the US, is aimed at teenagers who are an American size 12 (UK size 14) to 20 (UK 22) – although we’re not sure we’d classify a size 14 as ‘plus size’, this is nevertheless a welcome move and another sign that attitudes to what is ‘fashionable’ and ‘beautiful’ are changing for the better.

Contestants should be between 5′9″ and 6′1″ tall, and will need a parent or guardian’s permission if they are under 18 years old. The winner will get a year-long modelling contract with a top agency and photos by Tyra herself for MagaLine.

When it comes to shopping, we all know men and women are very different animals. But the good news for us girls is that a surprising item tops the list for getting men’s hearts racing when shopping – yes, it’s women’s lingerie.

In a study carried out by Debenhams and reported in the Daily Express, heart monitors were fitted to track the heart rates of 1,000 shoppers as they browsed in store. The aim was to find out which departments saw customers get most enthusiastic.

For men, it was lingerie that topped the list – let’s hope that was more down to excitement than embarrassment! Women, on the other hand, were most excited when they were treating themselves to a gorgeous party dress or a pair of glam shoes.

The study was carried out on Christmas shoppers, but as Valentine’s Day fast approaches, this could be the time to drop a subtle hint to your special someone that the perfect gift for both of you might be some luscious plus-size lingerie from the ranges available on UpperCup.com
